How does breastfeeding make you feel?

It makes me feel empowered, almost like a power ranger. I get so many people in shock at the fact that I feed my baby from my chest, they are always so happy for us and that makes me feel good deep down. To know that sometimes strangers are excited about the generational wellbeing of my children gives me a confidence I can’t explain. I love when Black men shoot me a fist up in the air when they see me feeding my baby boy in public or when they find out in conversation. It’s always “keep it up” and that makes me float.” Mama Jazzmine B.

“I feel like breastfeeding helped an incredible amount. For a while when I first had him, I felt disconnected in a lot of ways. I was dealing with an immense amount of heartbreak at the time and I just felt numb. I felt like I was failing him at first because I was literally not producing anything so that made me feel pushed even further away from him. I couldn’t give him what he needed those first weeks but then one day the floodgates opened and my milk ran down one side of my body as I tried nursing on the other side. I felt electrified, like I had gotten my powers turned on or something. Breastfeeding and actually having something in there to feed him”
